WAIMAIRI CEMETERY, CHRISTCHURCH, CANTERBURY, NEW ZEALAND
Waimairi cemetery is in Grahams Rd, Christchurch, just down the road for me, so if you have a request just give me the directions. It is relatively modern and it is huge so this work in progress may never progress very far. I have a few hundred photos already but haven't even made a dint on the numbers. I will apologise in advance Waimairi headstones are laid east/west so only on the dullest of days is it possible to avoid the reflection on the shiny surfaces.
List of the photos posted here so far with the year of death if available (and remember I do make mistakes, it is up to you to verify the information), only a small sample of those interred:

The main Attraction to Waimairi for me, the Reverend James Tennent and his wife Jeannie. He came across to New Zealand from Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland as a missionary. Don't be mistaken we were still a wild land when the Titanic was sinking. They were my husband's great grand parents and from what I hear, some of the nicest people ever born. The spelling of the "Tennent" name has varied over the generations, many do it with an "a" and others missing an "n", but usually they are all connected if they descend from the good coalmining folk of Lanarkshire.
Rev James Tennet is buried in Block PR12 Plot 14.
Jeanie Liddell Tennent is buried with him Block PR12 Plot 15.

One of the main problems at Waimairi is the lichen. It is well established on many headstones making them difficult, if not impossible to read. A quick scrub with soap and water dislodged most of it from Uncle Wallie and Auntie Mary's and did make a considerable difference without damaging the surface. So if you have time go down and give your relatives a face wash.
Walter and Mary Turner are buried in lock PR57 plot40.
Walter Turner came out to New Zealand on his own when he was 14. He married Mary Liddell Tennent, one of the daughters of Rev James and Jeanie Tennent. He was known to sing very well.
